Beef: Multibreed genetic evaluation
Whether you're a producer, breed association or industry stakeholder, this page provides the essential information on Australia's multibreed beef genetic evaluation initiative.
New evaluations for more than 20 beef breeds
Two beef multibreed genetic evaluations are being established – one for tropical breeds (TROPBEEF) and one for temperate breeds (TEMPBEEF).
Breeds targeted for inclusion include:
TROPBEEF
Belmont Red, Brahman, Brangus, Charbray, Droughtmaster, Santa Gertrudis, Tropical Composites and Ultrablack.
TEMPBEEF
Angus, Beef Shorthorn, Blonde d’Aquitaine, Charolais, Devon, Hereford, Limousin, Murray Grey, Red Angus, Shorthorn, Simmental, Speckle Park, Salers, South Devon and Wagyu.
The establishment of the multibreed beef genetic evaluations is in a research and development phase, with target dates for the availability of the TROPBEEF genetic evaluation in May 2027, followed by the TEMPBEEF genetic evaluation in January 2028.
