Implications for across country genetic evaluation
Many single breed, BREEDPLAN evaluations include animals from overseas countries, such as New Zealand, South Africa and Namibia.
Multibreed genetic evaluation includes the same capability to include overseas animals, with breed associations from countries outside Australia also being invited to provide data to support the development of multibreed genetic evaluation, and participate in the routine, commercial multibreed evaluation once it is commercialised.
It is envisaged that multibreed breeding values will be presented in a form appropriate to each country. For example, multibreed breeding values in New Zealand may be presented as either New Zealand Cattle Breeding Values, or Estimated Breeding Values.
